Used in decorations for over 600 years tessellations or tiling of a flat surface is the covering of a plane using one or more geometric shapes, called 'tiles', with no overlaps and no gaps. Tessellations have been made famous by Islamic architects using them extensively in Mosques - example is the Alhambra in Spain - and by MC Escher in the 20th Century with his exquisite lithographs and wood carvings.
I have been interested in tesselations and the mathematics behind them for as long as I can remember. There's a facination which accompanies these art pieces which creates a wonder in the eye of the beholder as they struggle to give a grip on what they are viewing.
Below are a sample of a wider collection of limited edition prints which I have created over the last 7 years.
